About FIRST® LEGO® League divisions

The IET are proud to be the delivery partners here in the UK and Ireland, so we wanted to tell you what FIRST® LEGO® League is all about. FIRST® LEGO® League is a global STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) programme for children and young people aged 4-16.

At the IET, we work hard to inspire the next generation of engineers and technicians to take on the challenges of the future, and FIRST® LEGO® League is the perfect programme to start young people thinking about engineering as a potential career path. The earlier we can get children engaging in STEM education, the more embedded the important engineering skills such as persistence, creative thinking and problem solving become.

FIRST® LEGO® League runs in an academic year, and each season there is a new theme that focuses the exciting STEM learning in FIRST® LEGO® League into tangible real-world contexts. FIRST® LEGO® League is split into 3 divisions: Discover for 4-6-year-olds, which is all about learning through play; Explore for 6-9-year-olds, which is a fun introduction to coding and research; and Challenge for 9-16-year-olds, which is a life skill robotics-based competition. Whichever division children and young people participate in, they’ll be learning not only important STEM skills but also valuable skills that will equip them to face future challenges both within education and the future workforce. And all while having loads of fun working in a team!

All three divisions are fully planned out, with detailed lesson plans created for you as well as all the additional resources and support for teachers and coaches. FIRST® LEGO® League is also mapped to the curriculums across the UK and Ireland, with exciting events at the end of the programme, packed full of action, celebration and fun.

Take a look at our website for more information on each FIRST® LEGO® League division, and decide which of the flexible registration options work best for you and the children and young people you work with. We’ll be on hand to answer any questions you might have. We hope to see you at one of our events soon
