About FIRST® LEGO® League Explore (6-9)

The teams research the topic, displaying their ideas on a team poster, build a LEGO® model and program one part to move using LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 or LEGO® SPIKE Essential software.

FIRST® LEGO® League Explore rapidly develops teamwork, design, programming and communication skills, but the most important thing is that it is great fun and makes the children feel proud of what they have achieved!

  • Form a team of up to six children, ages 6-9 years. You can form this team however you like - through a school, as a family, with a community group or just a group of friends!
  • Choose a Festival and register to take part. Team registration costs £25 plus VAT. Once you have registered and paid, you’ll be sent an Explore Set (big box of LEGO®), six Engineering Notebooks and a Team Meeting Guide, which will help you organise your team and guide them through the Challenge.
  • Purchase a LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 or LEGO® SPIKE Essential set. These are available from any LEGO® Education distribution partner such as Raising Robots and Creative Hut. You will need the WeDo 2.0 or LEGO® SPIKE Essential to program the model.
  • Download the Challenge Document.
  • Work through the Team Meeting Guide to complete the Challenge and allow the children to develop their poster and model.
  • Festivals give the opportunity to bring you together with schools and teams in the local area. Your team will present their work to other teams, share what they have learnt and celebrate their achievements. Each child receives a medal and certificate and the goal is to send them home feeling incredibly proud of what they have achieved!

FIRST® LEGO® League Explore Class Pack

Bring FIRST® LEGO® League Explore into your classroom!

FIRST® LEGO® League Explore Class Pack is an ‘in house’ version of the globally recognised FIRST®LEGO® League Explore. It gives you the opportunity, resources and guidance to run and deliver the programme within your curriculum time.

It also helps spread the impact of being part of FIRST® LEGO® League Explore across a wider range of pupils, allowing them the full benefit of what the programme has to offer.

Rather than a select group of pupils, your whole class will be able to take part and develop their skills across a wide range of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects. Rather than having to travel to a Festival - you will hold your very own within your school!

FIRST® LEGO® League Explore is CREST Accredited

The British Science Association runs the CREST Award scheme. It is a nationally recognised accreditation scheme for STEM project work with 40,000 young people in the UK gaining awards each year. Teams can complete a Discovery CREST Award whilst taking part in FIRST® LEGO® League Explore.

FIRST® LEGO® League Explore is also Industrial Cadet Accredited

Industrial Cadets works with UK employers to create a talent pipeline and a future skilled workforce, whilst helping young people to develop the skills they need to enter industry with confidence. Children will receive the Bronze Award for taking part in FIRST® LEGO® League Explore.
