Covering primary and secondary education, the bulletin will highlight the IET’s latest resources and offerings as well as those from our Partner organisations, keeping you informed of the latest education news affecting our community as well as encouraging you to take part in upcoming activities and download the latest resources to engage your students. Let us help you and together we can inspire the next generation of engineers and technologists.

How to sign up

Follow these steps to sign up to the Education Bulletin within MyIET. The Education bulletin is sent out during the first week of every month (excluding August).

  • Visit MyIET: https://www2.theiet.org/my/
  • Follow the registration process or log in
  • Click on the "My Interests" tab (second option on the purple bar)
  • Scroll down to 'Email subscriptions and preferences'
  • Select your preferences under Newsletters (scroll down for ‘Education Bulletin - Schools/FE’)
  • Press the “update” button

Summer STEM resources for primary

10 key issues with children’s learning in primary science in England

The OFSTED research review series: science identifies factors that can contribute to high-quality school science curriculums, assessment, pedagogy, and systems.

This will inform a subject report due out in June 2021. The SEERIH & Ogden Trust report offers pertinent insights into the national context of primary science education, highlighting how far too often primary pupils’ science learning involves ‘fun activities’ that do not deepen understanding of the associated scientific concepts.

By prioritising ‘wow’ moments without clear reference to any curricular goal, there is risk that primary pupils don’t fully embrace the opportunities for meaningful science learning.

Apply now to take part in a 2023-2024 IET Faraday® Challenge Day

The IET Faraday® Challenge is a free of charge annual competition that tasks students to research, design and make prototype solutions to real-world engineering problems.

The IET Faraday® Challenge Days are designed as cross-curricular activity days covering science, design and technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and are held at schools, organisations and universities around the UK.

You can now either apply to host an IET Faraday® Challenge Day at your school during the 2023/2024 season with the option to invite teams from up to five other local schools or apply to be an invited school and take one team from your school along to another local event.

If circumstances mean it is not possible for one of our IET Faraday® Challenge Leaders to come into your school, you can also apply to hold a teacher-led IET Faraday® Challenge Day at your school for your students only.

The deadline for applications is 28 April 2023.

Our SUPERPOWERED season is in full swing, with teams exploring the energy journey from source to consumer. Upcoming regional tournaments will soon see teams across the UK and Ireland competing for a place at the National Finals, but you can also get in on the action with our class packs – the in-school delivery model that reaches every student!

Anne-Marie Imafidon, CEO Stemettes

This month we are highlighting Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE. She is CEO of the award winning Stemettes who encourage and celebrate women in STEM, which Anne-Marie co-founded to inspire and build up the pipeline of young women going into STEM careers, after discovering the falling numbers going into her industry.
