Meet our Engineering Education Volunteers

We are not currently accepting any new applications for Education Officers, but we encourage you to visit the STEM Ambassador pages where you will find further information on how you can become a registered STEM Ambassador and sign up to other STEM education volunteering opportunities.

Meet our wonderful Education Officers and Education Ambassadors

Generally, there is an Education Officer (EO) or Education Ambassador (EA) volunteering in each UK county who can, upon request and availability, support local schools and youth organisations’ STEM activities including; careers talks, science fairs, and Girlguiding and Scout Association meetings.

They represent us in promoting a better understanding of engineers and the contribution engineering makes to society, they often work closely with local STEM organisations, including local STEM Ambassador hubs.

Utilising the education resources we provide, ranging from information on engineering careers to in-person practical activities, they assist with the aim of promoting STEM subjects and engineering careers to children and young people aged 4-19. They can also act as Advocates for the Engineering Education Grant Scheme (EEGS).

All of our EOs/EAs are Enhanced DBS/PVG checked and receive mandatory training, including; Safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk training, Code of Conduct, Data Protection, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Guidance and support are also provided by the Education Volunteer Coordinator and Education Manager – Regional Liaison.

Let us introduce you to the entire team across the UK and help you find your local EO and EA.

Be sure to check out our Education A-Z page where you can find links to all of our education and early career resources, including our free careers packs and exclusively created volunteer resources that our volunteers have been involved with and generously shared with you!

STEM Ambassadors

Alternatively, did you know over 2,500 IET members are registered STEM Ambassadors with STEM Learning. They enhance the over 30,000 volunteers from a wide range of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related jobs and disciplines across the UK. You can request a STEM Ambassador through our friends over at STEM Learning by visiting their website.
