Funding and kit support

Making engineering accessible to more young people.

We recognise that funding can be a barrier to delivering hands-on STEM activities. A limited number of subsidised Innovation Kits are available to stock the 'shop' where the young people buy their prototyping materials.

We have managed to secure funds for UK schools, home education groups and community organstions who would otherwise be unable to participate due to financial constraints.

If your group can participate without financial support, please allow these kits to go to those in greater need. 

Eligibility criteria

Application will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, across a combination of criteria.

All of the below factors will be considered but you do not need to fulfil each one to be eligible. Please complete the following information that applies to you based on:

  • Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) ranking
  • Areas of low social mobility
  • levels of free school meals/pupil premiums or equivalent
  • Levels of specialist SEND provision
  • Desired impact on young people and your school/organisation.

Application process

To apply for subsidised funding, please complete the registration form.

The funding application will remain open through the season. We begin the season with a number of subsidised kits and our fundraising and sponsorship teams work to secure additional funding to support more applicants throughout the season.

Each application will be reviewed and scored individually by the Faraday® Challenge team and you will be notified of the outcome by email.

If your application is unsuccessful, you will have the option to either deliver the challenge using resources secured independently or remain on our waiting list.

Our fundraising team will continue to actively pursue funding opportunities on your behalf throughout the season.

If you are successful

If successful in receiving a subsidised kit, you will be expected to fulfil the follow:

  • Complete the online registration link within one week of receiving the link – failure to do so will mean your kit will be reallocated to another recipient. A fee of £20 +VAT will be payable at the time of registration.
  • Deliver the Faraday® Challenge
  • Submit your winning team's prototype to the Faraday Awards
  • Complete end of programme evaluation
  • Use the kit to deliver the Faraday® Challenge at least once per year in 2028 and 2029.
