2020 - 2021 season

As school closures and restrictions relating to the COVID-19 pandemic continued throughout the academic year the 2020 - 2021 season of IET Faraday® Challenge Days was again adapted and this time was delivered as Teacher-led IET Faraday® Challenge Days and a Virtual IET Faraday® Challenge .

The IET Faraday® Challenge theme partner this year was Network Rail and students had to help them to sustainably manage the increasing numbers of passengers using their network and make a working prototype of their design which had to include a circuit.

The National Final took place virtually on 13 July 2021 and Royal Liberty School from Romford won the season’s title.

2019 - 2020 season

A record-breaking 210 IET Faraday® Challenge Days were planned for the 2019 - 2020 season, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the government’s decision to close schools in March 2020 we had to cut the season short and innovate.

Despite this we were still able to deliver a total of 134 events with 320 schools and 4,493 students involved.

The theme for the season was in association with Airbus, with teams being given the task of developing a product which would help Airbus in delivering support to international aid organisations and humanitarian causes with their product either helping Airbus transport aid or help people in times of need.

We also adapted the challenge into a Virtual IET Faraday® Challenge and opened the competition up for anyone between 7 and 15 years, with the option for young people to take part at home, in school, individually or as a group or family.

The Virtual IET Faraday® Challenge received 165 entries with 257 participants involved.
