This year’s Engineer a Better World competition for 4-13 years will unite sports enthusiasts, space explorers, designers, innovators, and of course, those who just like to have fun!

We have put together a collection of engaging resources to compliment your learners’ competition entries, to either whet their appetite before they start or further their skills after they have submitted their entry. From creating a foldable football goal to designing an astronauts menu and even growing grass on the moon!

Create a foldable football goal

Consider the issues with playing football on the moon and transporting equipment to it by designing and making a model of a goal that could be folded into a tube for transport, then opened up and used.

Design a robot to draw lines on a football pitch

Produce a labelled sketch of their idea and write a microcontroller program for the electronic aspects of a football pitch line marking robot.

Make a terrarium to grow grass on the moon

Create a terrarium to show how grass could be grown on the moon, overcoming some of the external temperature issues of growing grass in this environment.

Design an astronauts menu

Experiment with different types of food and test their suitability for space travel. Then develop a menu that includes breakfast, lunch and dinner suitable for space travellers.

Measure the velocity of balloon rockets
