Projectiles

Motion in 2 dimensions

In this A Level mechanics practical activity balls are released from rest at the top of a ramp so that they run across a table and land on the floor. Can you use your knowledge of mechanics to predict the landing position on the floor? Do the calculations and then check your predictions.

This KS5 maths and physics practical is designed to be easily set up and carried out with simple equipment. It will help students to understand the mechanics topic of projectiles in A level Mathematics.

The mechanics video features the equipment needed and the practical procedure. The teacher notes contain additional guidance on carrying out the activity, sample calculations and suggested points for discussion, as well as an indication of some relevant real-life applications.
